A $4.8 million renovation is planned
for what was once the Mid-America Storage building. The reborn
building will be known as the Berkley lofts, after former Kansas
City mayor Richard L. Berkley.
Beginning in summer 2006, the six-story
warehouse will be converted into 48 condos. The units will
range in size from 750 to 2,300 square feet and cost from $180,000
to $200,000. Units on the top floor will run $250,000 to $350,000.
Most of the units will have two bedrooms. Completion is scheduled
for spring 2007.
An $8 million second phase is planned
which will add nine new townhouses adjacent to the historic lofts.
